December, 2011 - Due to more beautiful high water in the Murray and Goulburn Rivers, The Onion Patch is now under water again. This very popular wedding venue will now not be able to be accessed for quite some time unless you're in your wetsuit, flippers and have a snorkel.
However, the welcome Spring floods along The Murray River have affected this beautiful section of the Murray's bank and The Onion Patch might just need a little bit more time and sunshine to recover. I popped down to The Onion Patch early on Melbourne Cup Day (2010) and despite being disappointed with the appearance of the area just now, I'm still very much in awe of power and beauty of our great river. And, nature being what she is, I'm sure it won't be too much longer before The Onion Patch reclaims its appeal as one of Echuca's favourite wedding locations.
Just out of sight of the river is Echuca's Aquatic Reserve with its deck or pontoon landing extending over the waters of a quiet billabong. An afternoon wedding here, with the dappled sunlight filtering through the leaves of the majestic river red gums and the gently sloping manicured lawns is an ideal start to married life.
Another of my favourite places is the charming parkland on the banks of The Campaspe near Ogilvie Avenue. This could be just 'the' place for a small and relaxed wedding ceremony and is well worth having a look at.
Resorts and Wineries
It's hard to have a favourite as all of our resorts and wineries are simply stunning in their own unique way and each one offers nothing but the best for their wedding packages.
Just a couple of minutes out of Moama, the Pericoota Vines Retreat offers superb wedding packages for couples and their guests. Its stunning garden surrounds provide a spectacular setting for your ceremony and some gorgeous photos.
If you love the majestic Murray River, why not cruise along it to your wedding ceremony? Thrill your guests by quietly appearing over the beautiful bushland river bank as your wedding party proceeds over the manicured lawns. This makes a never-to-be-forgotten entrance to your very special day.
With a deck overlooking the majestic Murray River, and a marquee that, at night, looks like a fairyland delight, you'll love this fantastic venue. Situated just out of Moama in stunning bush surrounds, Moama on Murray is a perfect setting for an afternoon wedding with a twilight or dusk reception.
If you love the river red gums then why not 'go bush' for your wedding ceremony. The Torrumbarry Loch park is another of my favourite places and in the stillness of late afternoon, the reflections on the slow moving Murray River are absolutely gorgeous. Imagine the reflection of your wedding party mirrored in this majestic river. What beautiful photos you'd have.
While there are plenty of bushland sites in and near Echuca - have a drive along the scenic road through Victoria Park, slightly north of Echuca at Nathalia you'll find more lovely parks along the Broken Creek. Uncle Bob's Park is just one of these.
If you're prepared to let your inner 'bushie' take part in your wedding ceremony, you'll love some of the places in the Barmah's beautiful river red gum forest. The Barmah Muster Yards will provide an authentic rustic setting for your ceremony, or if you'd like to have a greater sense of the Murray River and its red gums, then places like The Gulf, Tongalong or Bosses Beach might just appeal to your heart and mind.

If you prefer a more 'country' and casual atmosphere for your wedding, then I'd urge you to have a look at The Falcon Hotel Motel at Kanyapella on the Murray Valley Highway, just out of Echuca. Newly renovated and beautifully presented, this great little country pub offers a fully catered function room, with outdoor facilities looking across wide open paddocks.
